Why Give?

Tithing

We believe that giving is a form of worship and we display our thankfulness and commitment to God through giving back a portion of what God has richly blessed us with. The Bible says in Proverbs 21:26, "the righteous gives and does not hold back" (NASB), so we are a Giving Church: giving of our time, talent and treasure. We have seen that generosity changes lives, not only our own (Proverbs 3:9-10, 2 Corinthians 9:6-7, Luke 6:38), but also the people we are reaching through the local church and beyond.

Those who call the POCC their "home" church regularly give a tithe unto the Lord. The word "tithe" literally means tenth or 10%. In Malachi 3:10, God tells the people to bring the tithes of their income into the storehouse (church) in order take care of the needs of His church. Tithing isn't merely giving something to God but it's giving back what was His to begin with. All that we have, or hope to have, comes from Him! Later in Malachi 3:10 the Lord challenges the people and says, "Test me now in this.. if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it." Tithing is a way that we show God that we have put our trust in Him.
